DJ Exploitation
by: Flipside
I'm actually ashamed and disappointed by what just happened recently, Been put on a line-up that i know nothing about. I wont lie this has happened before but I took a personal stand against it but a year later, It Just happened again and unfortunately it might happen even more unless Sasolburg DJs start going against it.
And that's my reason for this post, and I hope it reaches every Msolomba DJ out here. A lot of work goes into being a DJ, and some people still don't understand the work one puts in just to get the name out there and mentioned among the best. And sadly most Msolomba promoters / club owners still think they own DJs, I've been a resident DJ before around here and honestly i felt i was a slave.
Most if not all of these 'club owners' don't mind paying thousands for outside or "professional" Djs while local guys get nothing. But not only promoters are to be blamed for this, DJs must take the fall too. We let these guys control us. We just don't know how much we really worth or just afraid to speak up?
There are a thousand ways to hustle to your success without selling yourself short, especially to a lot of these pointless 'events'. I love my home-town and I will keep doing what i can to help people that ask me for a hand.
This post is based on my personal opinion and observations, With it I hope i dont offend anyone but start a personal introspection to my fellow DJs and friends. You always welcome to drop your comment/suggestions below. We can over come this, only if we stand together.
