Hustler Insider: Vertigo (Interview)

Deejay Vertigo born and raised in Sasolburg, Real name Ndade Mofokeng, Vertigo went to Bofulatshepe Primary as a young boy and later he went to Iketsetseng High School where he completed his Matric in 2009.

That's where the love of house began, Vertigo started going out listening to music with his friend Tshepang (Beetz). Vertigo got his first gig at his matric dance in 2009, He later met the Roc Boys which is formed by Scova and Peacemaker. They are the ones who groomed him and made him who he is today.

Deep Knights: How did the name Vertigo come about ?

• Vertigo:  Well when I was growing up there were groups tsa "Mabojwa", so we had a group too and we called ourselves "Vertigo Boys" then the group died and I was left with the name, because I was the one that represented too much actually I was the CEO (laughs).

Deep Knights: You got any other Nicknames ?

• (Laughs) ah!! They ugly yho! Well its Mr Shy, as you can see I'm shy.

Deep Knights: We want those ugly ones!

• Vertigo: (Laughs) when I was growing up my friends used to call me Smiley.

Deep Knights: Before you met the roc boys and started DJ'n, what did music mean to you?

• Vertigo: Music always made sense to me, and meant its the only way I want to spend my life. Growing up only definition I had of life was music, it meant everything to me.

Deep Knights: Who inspired you to end up DJ'n ?

• Vertigo: Capy, I used to listen to him at Osibisa. Back then when they used to call "Molaleng". Every Friday when I came back from school I used to pass there, every time I'd find them playing music and luckily for me, I'd always find Capy playing.

Deep Knights: On a lighter note, If you could be invisible, who would you kiss ?

• Vertigo: (Laughs) it doesn't have to be a celebrity right.

Deep Knights: (Laughs) Yes, someone from Sasol preferably.

• Vertigo: Portia Mabefu .... (Laughs)

Deep Knights: Boxers or Briefs and why?

• Vertigo: (Laughs) Boxers, because they comfortable.

Deep Knights: Tell Us something people don't know about you.

•Vertigo: I go to Church a lot. If I'm not tired I go to church.

Deep Knight: Club Osibisa Or Captains Corner and why?

•Vertigo: Osibisa, the people there understand the type of music I play, unlike Captains Corner its more of a commercial place.

Deep Knights: Which Big house hold names have you played alongside?

• Christos, Frank Roger, Shimza, Vinny Da Vinci and Tumelo.

Deep Knights: Beside Dj'n, what do you do ?

•Vertigo: I play Basketball, I go every time when i get a chance to practice because I'm always busy, plus I'm single. (laughs)

Deep Knights: Single and available?

• Vertigo: Only to a lady with dimples (laughs)

Deep Knights: Would you say Dj'n is a career or a hobby ?

Vertigo: I'd say its a career if you not doing anything aside, for me its a hobby for now.

Deep Knights: A couple of days ago you hosted a Charity event, how did it come about and how was the outcome ?

• Vertigo: You know I don't come from a rich family so I know how its like to need something, the whole Charity event thing started when I was at work.

I saw an FB wall post about this other charity event in Parys. So I thought to my self if those people can do it for their community why can't I do it for my community. I called Tshepang and I told him about the idea, he gave me the support I needed from him. It was my 1st time doing a Charity Event.

About the outcome I hope the people got the massage. A certain Percentage understood what the event was all about. The marketing was a bit poor because I was doing everything from my own pocket, so I couldn't print as many flyers and posters. So maybe next year it will be big.

Deep Knights: Any Future Plans?

•Vertigo: Yes! I want to get involved in producing and I also want to go study sound engineering and own my record label one day.

Deep knights is very thankful for the great time we had during this interview. We learned a lot about Vertigo as a young guy from Msolomba with a dream and the Vertigo brand as the future of this business.

We wish him all the best in the future and hope he makes msolomba proud.

Music Review: Thee Macanda -You & I

Artist: [Thee Mac Anda]
Label: [Kque Wave Records]
Including remixes by Kquesol and Mculo.

So deep knights did a review on Shatti's Uthando earlier this year and I believe my exact words were "best EP from Kquewave records" can I take it back? lol. Well seems like I spoke a bit too soon because they have done it again! This time with "You & I" by Thee Macanda.

One thing I love about the production from Kquewave records is the quality of every single track under their label. I don't know, I'm officially a fan!!

But I must admit, this took me by surprise. I've known Mac-Anda as a Dj for a while, and I mean everybody that know him knows he has been more on the "dance" side of house music than "deep" but that's as a dj it seems.

With all the hype around piano, xylophone and saxophone house tracks in the vaal, I guess this couldn't have came at a more perfect time. Laid back, soulful and vibey sounds, that's what to expect from this package. With the name "You and I" inspired by his journey through music throughout the years.

"After all the money, all the girls/groupies, the end result is just me and my music. And of course the most important reason me and my Fiance Palesa lol"  Mac Anda said to deep knights about the EP.

I'm not going to put my head on the block again lol the music keeps getting better and better. Big ups to the guys at Kquewave records. We've already started blazing this one. Now you make sure you get your copy as well, like we always say at Deep Knights #SupportYourLocalHustlers
