DK: Tell us a bit about your Top 10 selection.
These are the songs that put me to bed every night and i never leave them out in a set. I would play at least 3 or 4 if not 5 from the above list.

DK: As a child growing up, music surrounds us; what type of music did you hear the most back then?
lol funny question, I used to love kwaito to much back in the days, lol I even wanted to be a kwaito star, it turned out I couldn't write songs nor sing kwaito, so i turned to production and it turned out I was very good with it. All God’s plan

DK: What made you first realize you wanted to pursue a career in music?
The Love for music was just too strong

DK: Tell us about Ultra Tone, how did it come about and what can we expect from the label?
Well Ultra Tone is not only a house label as many people may think it is or tho we release mostly house. In the near future Ultra Tone will be taping in new genres in the music industry e.g. Hip Hop and Jazz etc. Ultra Tone Is Co-owned by 5 partners and best of friends. Next year expect two to three Albums dropping from Ultra Tone mine being one of them (My Secret Circle Album 2014), but for now look out for these Ep's V.underground ft Mishka - Gelo Wand (sama nominated) remixes (AbicahSoul, SoundQuest, Azee Project, Lele X) and Genvee ft Rona Ray -Tears Of The Ocean (V.underground & Rancido remixes)........the list gone's on.

DK: Do you have other interests or talents you would like to share with us?
lol i used to run, but i don’t think i still can

DK: What do you think makes you and your type of music unique from other Producers?
Well I could say my sound is very different from other producers always has that soulful feel to it and I never release a track if it’s not mixed nor mastered. Quality always counts when it comes to my music, and one other thing I love vocals, that’s one of the things you will mostly find in my music.

DK: How's the experience of working at SoulCandi studios as an engineer and in-house producer?
Well working at soul candi was an eye opener I have been there my whole music life (6 years now) from the school to the work stuff. All the things I know today came from that building straight from production to running my own label, I have seen and introduced myself to many of the greats of this industry, opened a whole lot of doors for me.

DK: What do you enjoy more, making music, radio or Dj'n?
 To tell you the truth I enjoy doing them all, but if I had to pick one I love doing the most it would be doing music.

DK: How would you describe entertainment in the Vaal?
I think Vaal has a lot to learn when it comes to entertainment we do the same thing over and over every year nothing new comes up. That’s one of the loopwholes we as ultra tone are hoping to close and I hope the event in October proves that. Not taking out any info for now, but ya'll just know its new and fresh.

 

DK: Now finally, revenge [Laughs] Deep Knights was once guests on your VUT show and you hustled us about women and music. Please tell us, how do you handle women that throw themselves at you and are you currently in any relationship?
lol i turn a blind eye nd no am not in a relationship at the moment.

I remember my first contact with Deep Xcape’s music, during their time at “Do it now recordings”. Their Morning glory E.P, Sweet Kisses remix and oh the explosive Ngawe remix, man I’ve been hooked ever since. And it’s been evident from then that Deep Xcape is going to change the S.A Deep sound to another level. Deep House Chronicles is no exception; it’s on a whole different level. Journey of soul, then a climax of laidback to this dance grooves that only they can capture so well.

DK: Besides being a dj what else fascinate you?

Humanity as a whole. So much to explore so little time in our lives and I enjoy new experiences and new people because I am inspired by how others view the world.

 

 

DK: What’s in the pipeline for Peks as a brand at the moment?

It definitely hasn’t been smooth sailing. Bootstrapping a start up has its challenges and finding great people hasn’t been easy at any stage, but I’d like to be a music compiler for a certain community radio station around my hood for soulful house music slot.  Having a vision and will clearly change the music scene.

 

 

DK: What is your favourite daily wear attire?

Jeans, checked shirt, cap and sneakers

 

DK: Who according to you is the best dressed guy in the house music biz?

DK: If you could be invisible for an hour, what would you do?

I would visit several nearby banks hahaha

 

 

DK: Women or cars?

Women, even if cars won’t leave you for another driver but I still choose women over cars lol.

 

DK: What’s the one thing people don’t know about you?

Well… if I said then they’d know soooo *mute* hahaha
 



DK: What would be the first thing you would do if today was your last day?

To be honest I would be so depressed and terrified that it’s my last day on earth but I’d listen to Soulful House Music and tell everyone that I’ll be leaving behind that I love them

Music Review: Atjazz (Atjazz Record Company)

 

We have nothing but love and respect for Martin Iveson Aka Atjazz, normally Deep Knights music reviews focuses on an EP or just one song but which one do you go with when it comes to this 'Remix King' we'd like to call him [laughs]. Prolific remixer throughout his career, Atjazz just has the ability to turn any song and make it his own, adding unique sound and vibe to his production.

 

Not many S.A fans know that Martin took on a job at a new computer games development studio by the name of Core Design Ltd, he left the company 13 years later to concentrate more on his own studio environment in which to channel his musical aspirations further.

 

 

"....I for one am an avid sampler of my own sounds and love to get into editing and would love to see more people getting back into the art of sampling" - Atjazz

So since we couldn't choose one song to go with, we just figured why not pick 3 of the ones we feeling right now.

 

"I always re-program beats and drop new keys but sometimes i get busy and re-sample the parts that I’ve been given. as for productions, it’s about getting a groove and then finding the space to make a song from nothing! a much different approach"

DK: How did you get into music?
i wouldnt know how to answer that one,but Ive always bin in love with music from a  an early age, it wasnt house at 1st, used to jam to my uncles collection of Jazz & Soul Ballads, until house music caught me, but i know how i got into djing (laughs), ive always seen myself as just someone who listens and love music not me playing the music for the people NO, until a friend of mine( Tshepo Longaoabala) saw a Dj in me and made me pursue it.

Music Review: Dolls Combers Feat. Diviniti - Grateful

 

No true fan of Deep House is allowed to say they don't know Dolls Combers, because these guys are at the heart of it. "The Italian Trio" consisting of Manuele Tigani, Pino Di Pietro and Vincent Lacerenza are simply adored by S.A Deep, Soul and Jazzy house fans. The "Grateful" package is just a pleasant appetizer ahead of their S.A Tour, backed up by the forever beautiful voice of Terri Smith (Diviniti), you know the package is bound to be soulful.

It includes remixes by Gregory Del Peiro,  John Lundun & Chymamusique, Brewed Souls and Andy Soul. Without being bias [laughs] Deep Knights loves the Brewed Soul remix, we just love the jazzy vibe on that mix. Big ups to them!!

Its more soulful and with instruments that speak to the Soul and Mind. Most of my selection its Local Talent which to me has been shown that South African Music its climbing up the leader and its been recognized through out the World.   

 

DK: Which Musicians/Dj/Producer do you admire and why?

Vocally I would Say Monique Bingham,she has got that groove which makes a song desirable

DJ/Producer I would say Mr 0808 SweetSoul (Nastee Nev) this guy completes every touch that I would think of in every song that he makes hence I personally think he is one of the best.  

DK: Beside being a Producer/Dj what else fascinates you?
I work as Sales Engineer, Its quit a fascinating job because I get to interact with different people on a daily basis. 

DK:What were your dreams as a child?
You won't believe I actually wanted to be a Doctor but as I was growing life took a different direction. I was in a live performing Band when I about 15 years that's when I fell in love the music.

DK: Which Artist or Producer would you love to work with in future?
Nastee Nev, Atjazz, The Layabouts and Monique Bingham

DK: What other project can we expect from you this year?
We currently working with a lady called Cympozia on a project called Better Dayz and can expect some of my tunes in compilation with big record labels.

 

 

DK: Highlight of your career?
The music industry its not as easy as it seem to break in but I think I have put my name our there.

DK: What's the one thing people don't know about you?
I think people don't know that I'm actually a Ndebele guy who is very respectful and believe in cultural activities. 

DK: If you were given a chance, would you enter Big Brother?

Nah I don't think I would survive because I'm just a reserved person, and staying indoors its not one of my favorites.

I would wanna pass my knowledge to someone in need.

What is it about?

We take a look at Top 10 favourite tracks of people in the music industry, be it producers, singers, djs, guitarists or anyone else you can think of.
