Oscar P_Bk 2 My Roots: Music Review: Chapter 2

With this being only the 2nd Deep knights Music Review. Found it extremely hard to put together, I mean this is Oscar P!!! lol. Have a lot of respect for his contribution to the music, and the work he put in all these years. With him coming to South Africa I'm truly honored to be writing this post. Just unfolding his history these past couple of weeks has been an experience.

BK 2 MY ROOTS!!

"I've never done a project on this vibe before with a classic feel. If you hear every song on the album, and it takes you back to a club you lived in, then I've done my job." He said about the album. Well, it mos definitely took me back to a club!! Its like a "Time Machine" lol. I just love the old school vibe on each track. You can hear the NYC, Chicago, Detroit and SA influence.

The album including tracks like "The Message" that went on to be #1 on Traxsource for 2 weeks. A lot of big names on the album as well, featuring artists like Todd Terry, Foremost Poets, Davidson Ospina, Christian Scott, DJ Ax, Charles Dockins, Rainy Payne.

Another track off the album that's getting a lot of love must be... "Time Machine" [you must have guessed this one] super hot dancefloor track. Definitely one of my favourites, Oscar P on Vocals!!! Lol let me say that again, Oscar P on Vocals. And the video is twice as dope, a must see Oscar P - Time Machine - Open Bar Music

Oscar P The Innovator: Chapter 1 By Deep Knights

Full Name Oscar Poche, known in music circles as Oscar P, is quite a character. Having been in what he clearly defines as the entertainment business (don't call it music biz in front of him) for the past 20 years, people often scratch their heads in amazement and wonder, 'What the hell does this guy do?' and, 'How can he do so much of it?'

When asked how he runs his business, and why he is so successful, he just says 'People never see me wear a suit, but I wear one everyday (in my mind) when I work at the office, I'm really an artist at heart, who learned how to function as a business man. I wanted to do what I loved to do, and that's being involved somehow, someway with music.'

Have you guys seen Oscar's Facebook Pictures? You'd think Oscar is a movies star with the Ninja Poses and the short Films. He worked briefly at Marvel Comics - the company that in the past years exploded into films with mega-blockbusters like Spider Man, X-Men, The
Hulk, and Blade.

'Well it's funny how things turn out. I really wanted to be a comic book writer, but growing up in Brooklyn around the DJs and parties gave me the bug. I wanted to learn how to beat match records, and produce tracks. I took advantage when the doors opened,' says Poche.

Poche found himself working at New York club impresario Vito Bruno's AM PM Management in the early 90's, where he started at the bottom literally working for office space to house his small recording

studio. he finally got his chance to helm his first project co-producing and co-writing Brother Makes 3's debut album at a Club' for Cardiac/Virgin Records.

'I was 21 or 22 at the time and I had never produced an album,' says Poche. So in 1992 he locked himself in for 3 weeks at the world famous DND Studios. He brought in collaborators like Eric Kupper,

Mike Rogers, Omar Santana amongst others and delivered 15 songs on schedule.

In 1999, along with Carlos Ortiz, he founded Rumba Jams.

Fast-forward another few years, and the music keeps on coming. In the past few years, Oscar P has seen his productions and remixes released on EMI France (Gala), Manifesto-Ultra-Rise-SonyBMG (Black Fras), George Krantz (Virgin), The Beloved (Atlantic), Karen Finley (Pow Wow), Kym Syms (Radikal), as well as respected labels like Clubstar, Pino Music, Deep Bass, and Vale Music.

'I like to stay busy, which means maintaining a steady schedule of studio sessions, DJ gigs, and marketing projects,' says Poche.

Today, Poche's passion for music when he's not in the studio remains his specialized marketing and promo company. Which he runs with Ortiz in the USA and markets music, films, and events globally: Media Services NYC. 'This is the company that makes all this possible on a daily basis. It's the backbone of our operation, and it allows us to develop our ears with

what the consumer wants, and needs,' says Poche.

Music Review: Kquesol Feat Shatti – Uthando

After Listening to a couple of tracks written and performed by Shatti (Vocalist). I must say, I’m amazed by the work and talent this very humble guy from Vaal (sasolburg) has to offer. And while going through his tracks one stood out, and just played in my head for the rest of the day.

“Love, Love, Love where did you go wrong. Love, love, love is falling apart” *singing* lol can’t do it like Shatti does but you get the point. Just can’t wait for this whole package to come out.
Very chilled and laid back deep house track. Uthando meaning Love, has a fresh and original feel with the vocals very much on point. We often hear local tracks with vocal totally missing the beat or the other way around but “Uthando” they just meet perfectly. Well, Kquesol beats on point as always, you get this element that moves u and have the one element that together with the vocals just brings it back down and deep. You can nod or dance to this.

Great sing along to play anytime of the day if you ask me. Even one Dj remarked this release as “The best song to come out of KQUEWAVE RECORDS”. Great work from Kquesol and Shatti. Keep up the good work and as we say here at Deep Knights, Support Your Local Hustlers!!!!
